Game on notes
Each game possesses an own original, unforgettable soundtrack. Most often it corresponds to the atmosphere of game, allows the player to plunge more deeply into a gameplay, to like the events on the ekarena of the monitor. Many tunes are remembered for many years, them download from the Internet, place in a collection and regularly listen. And after all it is possible not only to listen, but also to create most, for example, to create mixes from the best tunes, to change speed and a timbre of sounding, and to use the modified tunes, say, in own modes.
Here only tunes not to all games can be downloaded from the Internet, and music is usually carefully hidden in games from curious eyes of gamers. Therefore today we will understand, by means of what programs it is possible to get the fallen in love musical compositions from a subsoil of game engines and archives in this world.
Testing
We held testing of utilities at the most various games. From a retro taytlov took Neverhood and StarCraft. From "classics" we selected Quake 3 Arena, No One Lives Forever 2 and Battlefield 2. And from new games unpackers programs were tested by Unreal Tournament 3, Crysis and Gears of War. In addition some utilities passed "pro-race" on Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2, Command & Conquer 3, Warriors Orochi and Warhammer 40 000: Dawn of War.
Dragon UnPACKer
The Dragon Unpacker program appeared the first in queue. Surprisingly the friendly interface pleases with a charming drakonchik - the local character drawn in style of an anime. The list of the supported games not the biggest, but also not small. After almost two-year break, in March of this year support of the project, therefore in addition to old games (Aliens vs was started over again. Predator, C&C, Daikatana, Unreal Tournament 2003), Dragon UnPACKer is able to root out musical compositions and from the modern taytle now.
Delivery of the program includes the megauseful utility under the name HyperRipper. The ripper allows to look for in files with any permissions of the music/video/picture. An essence of such search in the following: in data archives resources contain in the normal look (well or reaped RAR ohm), and, respectively, their signatures remain invariable. On such pieces, "characteristic" for formats, the ripper selects the necessary files then adds on a primary window of the program, where them as normal resources can be lost in WinAmp or to save on the screw. Now before us will appear not only tracks from Quake 3, and even... load tune of Windows XP or Vista. The ripper idea very interesting, but in Dragon UnPACKer is realized not in the best way, there are, alas, not all tunes, and that are, not all are got in an adequate way: often instead of music from speakers unclear rustling reaches (appreciable errors in a recoder). One more lack of Dragon UnPACKer - after editing can't be placed files back in game.
Testing was held on all, the games mentioned in the beginning of article, Neverhood, StarCraft, Far Cry and Crysis check failed: as the distressful ripper didn't try to gut them, so at it anything and it didn't turn out. In certain cases he swore at the very beginning of search, in others after 30 minutes of operation found some garbage which refused to reproduce WinAmp. To Crysis generally there was an amusing story: the ripper found in 50-megovy archive of 7038 (!) files, with a total amount of 11 gigabytes! In practice it were textures, and there were their not 7 thousand, but only 100 pieces.
VERDICT: The program perfectly supports only those games which are in its basis. The built-in search engine (ripper) permanently fails. Not the best option, but it is worth holding not arms - perhaps, in the new version (updates quit every month), all glitches of the ripper will be corrected.
Game Audio Player
The second to us Game Audio Player, in abbreviated form GAP got. It is more specific utility, than Dragon Unpacker. "Dragon" after all is aimed at extraction of any resources from games, GAP is engaged in music/sounds. After start we are met by the unpretentious interface. Which games are supported isn't registered anywhere - but there is a list of formats, characteristic for games from one developer (we will tell, Blizzard or EA). In case of a choice of the necessary file the program if finds a firm format of the company, suggests to select the file of settings for that game which is necessary for you - distinctions between, for example, StarCraft and Diablo 2 so are defined.
If game appeared rather recently, and yet didn't manage to get to the list automatically supported, to GAP-e, as well as in "Dragon", there is a searcher on formats. Here it is realized much more primitively, but works much better. To use it, in the menu of the program select not the Scan File item. For especially advanced users there is such useful point as Scan Dir forcing the program to scan on music all files in the selected folder. It fine helps when it is in advance not known, music is hidden in which archive.
Testing took place extremely successfully. GAP found music and sounds in all) (!) games which we to it "fed". And in each taytl on search of compositions left less than a minute: the exception was made by Gears of War with which the utility was taken 4 minutes 20 seconds. Only thing "but": not all music and sounds was found, for example, in Crysis the subject from the menu, shots and explosions was lost somewhere, in Gears of War there were not all dialogs of characters, and in BF2 sounds of helicopters evaporated (and here airplanes were).
VERDICT: The universal program which is able to find music, regardless of that, is тайтл in its basis or not. Anything best of all and more simply wasn't invented yet.
MultiEx Commander
MultiEx Commander the extremely unusual program differing from the utilities which are already considered by us in a row of interesting features. For example, it is the single pakovshchik who not only pulls out resources, but also places them back after changes. Also MEC caused a stir in possibility of connection of new modules which, respectively, increase number of the supported games. In case of a certain skill you can even write such addon, the benefit language of modules not really heavy, and the manual on their use is on the program site.
Pluses listed, now we will pass to minuses. Unfortunately, MultiEx Commander is very bound to the Internet. To open any archive, it should get access to the Network on couple of seconds and to download new files. Unclear, why it is made quite so. Modules weigh a little and they could be included in a basic set. Also strongly strain constant bugs, hangups and kresh. That costed by only one attempt to download the module for Call Of Duty 4: the program failed 12 (!) times, thus tightly suspended system. At forums persistent hearings walk that MEC can even kill with Windows XP, and it settles accounts with Windows Vista one left. We will tell nothing, by us such horrors it wasn't noted, but we are simply obliged to warn you.
The MEC tests were passed by everything, and is quite successful. The truth in the course of testing it was clarified that modules for some games can be downloaded only for money (about 20 cents apiece), however and free too is enough.
Now there is some practice. The Open button in a primary window of the utility opens archive, Extract exports the selected objects from archive, Import, respectively, replaces the selected files with others - at your discretion.
In the tab of Options it is possible to include autoload of all of the games supported at the moment from the site (option Get Formats from Website). It will take more time, than when downloading files for a certain game, but will rescue you from contact with the Internet in the future. It is possible to edit settings of export of files, for example, to forbid to export dummy-files (files with a zero volume). Still here it is possible to set up, through what time there will be an autopreview of pictures, music, texts. Right there it is possible to view all MEC log.
VERDICT: The excellent raspakovshchik who tightly is given up on operation the Internet. If you have no network access, can even not set - the initial version supports ridiculously small number of games.
Magic Extractor
Magic Extractor - the program created in 2004 by group of enthusiasts. On the functions the utility is very similar to Dragon UnPACKer, she in the same way is able to tear out music and sounds from games, but at all refuses to pack them back, the truth for this purpose exists the conjugate Magic Packer program so everyone can use.
Magic Extractor, perhaps, the simplest program from our review. It works according to the elementary diagram: we select a disk on which game is located; we select the folder; we set the necessary file archive, we get into it, we find musical files necessary to us (yes, everything needs to be done by pens). After that we click files with the right mouse button and we select the Derive the Selected Files item in the shortcut menu. It is also possible to select all files with such permission. And here ordering of files by the size for some reason doesn't work. We will hope, this glitch will disappear in upcoming versions of a product.
When testing the program coped only with those games which are in its support-leaf, but it partitioned them greatly - for very small time and without any bugs and losses.
VERDICT: The quite good program, unfortunately its support stopped two years ago so the last games in basis of the utility aren't present, as a result to pull out music from them it won't turn out (though sometimes types of archives match). The Magic Extractor 2.0 version so we look forward is now developed.
Need for Speed Underground Music Exporter
In addition to the multigame programs sorted by us above there is still a set of small-sized "dot" utilities which are able to tear out music strictly from some one game. For an example we will consider quite popular Need for Speed Underground Music Exporter program. This small (37 KB) a console utilitka allows to pull out from a subsoil of Need for Speed Underground (and, by the way, almost all games of the NFS series which quitted later) all music. The soundtrack is torn out in an uncompressed look and occupies usually about 500 Mb (so clear a place on a disk). After extraction you will be able quietly to press music to the decent sizes (I for this purpose use, for example, the CD-EX program) in a MP3.
As NFS:U ME the console utility, don't wait from it for the friendly interface. Everything should be done independently. Move from archive with the program the nfsu_music.exe file to the game/SNDSTREAMS folder (all way looks approximately so: D:/Games/Need For Speed Underground\SNDSTREAMS).
Now launch the program, and in a minute of diligent decoding in the folder there will be 27 desired tracks (names are attached). In total - it was necessary to clamp them in a MP3.
